Brenda Simms, RN, BSN, CHTS-CP, is a Clinical Informatics Specialist with the Illinois Regional Extension Center (ILHITREC), based at NIU's CGS in DeKalb, IL. She works with practice managers, clinical staff, billing representatives, physicians and EHR vendors to successfully plan, coordinate, and implement an electronic health record (EHR) system, as well as assist practices with workflow redesign and help them develop required quality reporting. Brenda also worked for a time with the Central Illinois Health Information Exchange (CIHIE) to facilitate the implementation and effective adoption of HIE. During this time, she projected managed the first HIE “go-live” in Central Illinois and the first XCA connection “go-live”, as well. Her healthcare experience also includes nursing informatics, process improvement, data analysis and training as a Six Sigma Green Belt, workflow re-design and quality improvement.
Brenda has worked with 400-plus, Illinois providers to successfully reach Meaningful use and offers more than 30 years’ of nursing experience in the healthcare industry in both the in-patient and ambulatory setting. Brenda earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
