Brian Harger, EDFP, MS, Economic Development, has been a research associate at CGS for 18 years. Brian is an economic development practitioner, researcher and analyst with over 25 years’ experience. His areas of expertise include the creation and maintenance of EDO research programs, business intelligence research, economic base analysis, economic impact analysis and retail trade area analysis.
Brian's work focuses on effective practice, project feasibility, applied research and policy studies in economic development, industry cluster analyses, comprehensive planning and development strategies (CEDS), and the economic impacts of universities and community colleges. He has managed or participated in many projects related to local, regional and statewide economic revitalization and redevelopment, including the 2014 Illinois Economic Development Plan and the 2015 update of the Northern Illinois regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Science degree in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also holds an Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) certification through the National Development Council and an Economic Gardening Professional Certification (EGc) through the National Center for Economic Gardening at the Edward Lowe Foundation. His professional associations include the Council for Community and Economic Research, International Economic Development Council, and the Mid-America Economic Development Council.
